Breakfast was not a buffet, you had to order form the menu. The prices were ok. The waiting time was not long. The food was properly cooked.

Loved the decor which was in keeping with the hotel. The bed was comfy and everything was spotlessly clean. The towels were large and fluffy, a real treat.
We ate dinner at the hotel and enjoyed tasty food, generous portions and our meals were piping hot. Breakfast was equally as delicious, especially the bacon.
Our host, Kim was very welcoming.

Location was brilliant, we will definitely be staying here on our next visit to Rye. Our hosts went above and beyond to provide for us, they were so helpful with recommendations of places to visit in Rye. Breakfast was so lovely every morning, great selection of dishes, all homemade and their attention to detail was perfect. So kind and thoughtful, especially for my partner who was coeliac, they happily catered for him. Can’t wait to come back!

If you want a really authentic Inn the Mermaid is the one for you. Clean rooms and comfy bed. The staff were very helpful and food amazing. The only thing if not good on your feet is the cobbled streets but that is what you expect for this type of setting. Other than that nothing can fault it. Will definitely be back again. Also there is a lovely little cake come sandwich shop tucked down a little side pathway called The Cobbler. If not watching your diet certainly worth a visit.

Rye is a gorgeous town and clean.
Rye is a gorgeous town and clean. One of Henry the VIII's Cinque ports, so lots of history. We visit regularly.
Lots of places to eat, recommend Hayden's, Apothecary coffee shop and Cobbles tearoom. There are several others we have not tried. Avoid Marino's fish and Simon the Pieman has gone downhill.
Shops- Antique, gifts, books, clothes, chemists, and a good Jempson's supermarket at nearby Peasmarsh.
Pleasant town indoor swimming pool. Walks including a short one by the Windmill.
Lambs in the fields.
Tudor houses, Ypres tower with views. Great play park for children at the bottom of the hill. Paid parking, more near the harbour.
Bird watching at the local nature reserve. Recommend staying at the Flackley Ash hotel nearby.
Avoid Hastings and St. Leonard's they are ghastly, in need of regeneration. Camber Sands is okay, as is St. Mary's bay, although loos are basic.

Great town atmosphere with a wonderful heritage center . The volunteers were most informative and friendly.
I also was most impressed with the well set up nature reserve. A good cafe and visitor center and excellent bird hides.

A walk around the town of Rye is a must to see all the old buildings and shops.
There are quite a number of restaurants in Rye to choose from. Some of the 'owners' or managers need a course in customer service....Called into one to check his menu and when we said we were just looking he was not so helpful after we said we are just looking for a place for tonight....
However, we stopped into a small cafe for lunch and had great potato soup, which was excellent on a cold day.
Wonderfully attentive staff, luxury hotel level breakfast. Our room (we switched as we needed a twin room and this was done super swiftly and politely) was very spacious, clean with brand new bathroom and furnishings. Great selection of teas and coffees in the room. Very comfortable beds. Magnolia House is a very short walk into town and very convenient, and offers free parking- which was a big bonus for us. Exquisite breakfast. Lovely manager/owner. Great choice for Rye. We only stayed for one night but would stay longer next time.
The cottage is beautiful, cosy and full of character. We went during a cold weekend in December and it was toasty warm. The room was even better than we expected: the bed super comfy, the shower was great, and the whole room was full of lovely little touches like very appreciated biscuits! Brenda did so much to make our stay comfortable, we really appreciated her setting up the table for takeaway fish and chips for dinner. A perfect location for a weekend in Rye, couldn't recommend it enough!
Friendliness of the staff. This is the 4th or 5th time I've stayed in this hotel and I've always found the staff very friendly. It's nice to have friendly staff when you check in, return late at night, and at breakfast time. It really makes a difference.
It's clean. The bath towels are of a good size and good quality (not a given). The hotel has a car park which is one of the key factors for choosing this accommodation in Rye.
The Hope Anchor is a very charming Hotel in a historic building. Our room had a great size and was very well-equipped. The room was so quiet we felt like we were the only guests in Rye. The breakfast had a wide selection and was good. Due to the historic location, parking at the site is not possible but the car park in the town centre is very affordable.
This is a beautiful pub/restaurant/hotel, steeped in history. Well kept, very clean and an ideal location for exploring the historic town of Rye. The room we had was well equipped with all the expected amenities but a little bit on the small side especially for longer stays. The staff were polite and attentive to our needs. Would definitely stay again.
Beautiful hotel, exceptional staff, great base for exploring surrounding area - you will need to drive or get cab into Rye etc. Bathroom was very tired and could do with updating and unfortunately the steam room wasn’t working. But the staff were absolutely fantastic couldn’t have done more to make us feel any more welcome.
Parking was the reason for choosing this hotel but would definitely stay there again as the staff were very attentive, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and the breakfast was very filling. It is a very short walk to the town and the view from the garden over the river is lovely.
Anna, the breakfast host, is exceptional. She has so much time for the guests and was a great start to our day. The hotel is in a good location for exploring Rye on foot, yet is only a couple of minutes' walk from the 24 hour car park. Very comfortable bed and decent shower.
Beautiful hotel in the heart of Rye. If you'd like to stay at a traditional British hotel with classy details this is your place. Very spacious room. Great breakfast with a selection of marmalades, cereals, fruits and different sort of breakfast dishes.
5 stars
Such a beautiful room. Super clean. The decor is amazing. Hosts Jeremy and Paul were so friendly.
Would throughly recommend this boutique hotel. Breakfast was delicious. Perfect location in Rye.
Thanks so much ❤️
Breakfast was fantastic and location is great (bearing in mind Rye is pretty small).
Staff are fantastic, probably the best of the hotel. Rye is a small town so no problems at all with noises at night.
Lovely setting, really friendly staff and beautiful and comfortable dining area / bar. The option to have a cooked breakfast at the sister hotel was also lovely and only a couple of minutes walk.
Fairly quiet location with open outlook over river to fields beyond. Easy walk into Rye. Furnishings were clean and comfortable. Good communication from owner, so overall very satisfied.
Incredible breakfast and lovely staff. Perfectly situated hotel where you can easily park, walk, and enjoy all that Rye has to offer. Highly recommend!
