The Jewel in the Sicilian Crown
As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza swathed in vibrant pink blossom, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in paradise. The stunning location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.
However, it’s not its only glory. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the Greek Theatre is also a triumph. Its largely intact seating offers wonderful views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Spine-tingling summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars also offer live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, whose clock tower and church are overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the centre of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the south-west is the long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and north is the bay by Mazzaró.
As you would expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there is no shortage of Taormina accommodation on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, town centre apartments and luxury B&Bs.

One of the highlights of visiting Taormina is the views one of which is Mount Etna, which serves as a magnificent backdrop to the town. However, it is very pricey and touristy, which can detract from its authenticity and local feel. The town boasts an array of high-end shops and restaurants, catering to visitors seeking luxury and fine dining experiences. It's an excellent place to visit for a day trip, allowing you to soak in the sights, enjoy the upscale ambiance, and perhaps indulge in some shopping. The beaches below Taormina, while picturesque, are primarily reserved for guests staying at the beach resorts. The public areas on these beaches are relatively small and can get crowded and you can be bothered by street vendors, especially during peak tourist season. If you're planning to spend a day at the beach, staying at one of the resorts might offer a more comfortable and exclusive experience. In summary, Taormina is a delightful destination for a day trip, especially if you appreciate high-end shopping and dining, and want to enjoy a stunning view of Mount Etna. The whole town of Taormina was just Glorious!! The charm, Greek Roman archeological history in full display at the Amphitheater, spectacular views of Mount Etna, traditions, Sicilian food and cuisine, friendly people, shopping of Corso Umberto, and the stunning natural beauty, views, and beaches like that of Baia Isola Bella are not to be missed!! Absolutely a must see when traveling to Sicily!!

Taormina is a 'must see' destination and has so much to offer. We visited Savoca nearby whilst staying in Taormina which was a real treat. We also had an excellent dinner one night in Giardini Naxos and were serenaded by a folk group who made the night magical. We will definitely be returning.

A marvellous location and unique natural beauty have earned this city the nickname of Pearl of the Ionian Sea. The distinctive city of Taormina in eastern Sicily is perched on a rock above sea level, with awe-inspiring views over Mount Etna and the coastline. Like many other tourism hotspots, you have to plan carefully to avoid tourist traps and not get stuck in huge crowds.

Loved the location, lots to explore on foot with the Corso Umberto for shopping and eating, the Greek Theatre and the Botanical gardens for a quiet place to reflect and enjoy the views, and a play area for the children. The cable car is worth using to access the beaches which again are well serviced with food, drink and toilet facilities. They saw that it is my husband birthday so they spoiled us with a wonderful cold ice champagne!!!! Wowwww!!! The breakfast is off course wonderful and the pool area also 5 star experience!! We are counting the minutes to come back!!

The staff were all friendly and helpful, with some excellent recommendations for local restaurants. Also easy to get to Etna from here if you have your own car, just an hour drive - be sure to book a car park space at the hotel in advance.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. There was parking at the hotel, albeit at an additional charge. A perfect holiday.
