From the moment I set foot in K's Hostel, I was entranced. Referring to it as merely a 'hostel' does a great disservice to its outstanding quality. Perfectly poised on the riverbank, it's adjacent to the iconic Tokaikan Former Ryokan. This connection is evident as K's Hostel gracefully integrates historical elements - from authentic wooden fittings and majestic staircases to the splendidly spacious tatami mat bedrooms which whisk you back to a bygone era.
The hospitality didn't stop at the gorgeous ambiance; we were gifted two complimentary laundry tokens—a rarity even in many 4-star hotels. Every entry was met with warm, welcoming smiles. And the onsen? It's a delightful indulgence. Imagine bathing in fresh hot spring water amidst pristine facilities; and even with a full house, I often found myself enjoying the onsen in solitude.
I'm eager to explore more of what K's Hostel locations have to offer, given this exceptional experience. Highly recommended!

Everything was amazing!!

K’s house is so lovely. The room was large and airy with large windows opening over the water course outside. Bedding was traditional futon and there is the option to rent yukatas which is nice. The kitchen and laundry area is great and the onsen fantastic. The private one always seemed to be available. It’s easy to find, great location and about a 10 minute walk from the station.
This was our first time in a ryokan and we couldn't have a better experience. The rooms were beautiful. The futon comfortable. The onsen with a view on the city. There was a lot of explanations on how to use the onsen and enjoy our meal, which was perfect for us newbies. The traditional meals were a great a experience.
This is the perfect retreat hotel in the mountains. Old style Japanese ryokan with the friendliest staff. Food was amazing. The rooms are huge! And we had both western beds and futons! The outside onsen is such a delight and you can relax in it under the stars. It’s out of the way so a bit tricky to get to with public transport but that’s what we wanted for a trip to the mountains.
This is a charming ryokan, in a great location with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in a Japanese style room, and found the futons very comfortable (although were also sneakingly glad to have the normal sofa to sit in at other times). The atmosphere of the place is great, and the yukatas they provide - and the way they encourage you to wear them around the ryokan, including to breakfast - makes the whole experience very fun. Thank you for making our stay in Takayama so enjoyable!
A very good ryokan, a staff that welcomed us and explained all the facilities, we got a yukata (traditional dress), the dinner was very good with an aesthetic presentation and lots of small and tasty dishes. Nice onsen.
The location of this ryokan with its natural onsen (natural hot springs) by the river is just amazing! The private onsens that are across the hanging bridge are easy to book, wished we were allowed to stay longer when its not busy.
Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.
Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. We can highly recommend and would love to come back!
Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
